You may also find, in the same directory, a whole bunch of files called 'Autorecovery save'. Don't worry about doing that, because Word will automatically create another one. THis is the basic template file Word uses all the time. In that directory there should be a Word file called 'Normal'. The problem is that my Word XP is very slow when typing or deleting text like it's trying to repaginate every time an edit takes place. Maybe this happened to someone: I'm trying to translate a very long document in Word (320 pages, 50000 w) by overwriting or deleting the source text (yes! There still are clients who want to overwrite the source text!). You can always change your default printer to something else to see if that may help. Under he General section of the Advanced Tab, uncheck the box “Enable background repagination.Click File, Options, and Advanced Tab.(Can’t change this option in the default Print Layout mode because it will be greyed out. Click View and view your blank document in Draft mode.Word will then only paginate the document when you print or perform some other action that requires pagination (such as using Print Preview).

The solution is to turn off the background repagination. At times, this may slow down the program to the point where you consider it unacceptable. By default, Word automatically repaginates your document as you work.
